A head on collision between two cars led to the closure of the A44 between Chipping Norton and Enstone on Friday.
Fire crews from Chipping Norton, Hook Norton and Oxford attended the scene at around 6pm along with the South Central Ambulance Service who worked together in treating two injured people at the scene.
Fire crews had to use hydraulic cutting equipment and other specialist equipment to safely remove the casualties, and the two people were transferred to hospital using road and air ambulances.
The injuries to both people were described as serious but not life threatening by paramedics at the scene.
As a result of the incident and subsequent police investigations the A44 was closed for a number of hours.
Station Manager Brian Butler said “The cause of this incident is currently under investigation by the Thames Valley Police, but Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service would like to highlight this collision as a timely reminder to drivers of the importance of wearing seat belts and making sure drivers concentrate on the road at all times”.
