A fire next to the track near Banbury caused disruption to trains this afternoon (Thursday, July 26).

Trains between Banbury, Bicester North and Oxford were disrupted for two and a half hours after the fire at around 2.30pm.

Fire crews from Bicester and Deddington responded dealt with around 500m of vegetation along the side of the main Banbury to London Chiltern Railway line.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service wrote on Facebook: “Due to the obvious issues around working near and on railways - trains had to be stopped in both directions whilst crews dealt with the fire so apologies for any delay!

“Crews were at the scene for around 90 minutes along with representatives from Network Rail.”
