The main road is shut in both directions between St John’s and Upper Windsor Road after the pipe burst at around 5.10am, with Thames Water engineers on the scene by 6.30am.

A Thames Water spokesman said engineers are continuing to work on fixing the burst pipe which is 14 inches in diameter.

“We’re sorry for the disruption a burst on one of our pipes is causing,” he said.

“We’ve stopped the flow of water through the pipe, and no customer supplies have been affected.

“We’ve closed the road to allow us to carry out the repair safely, and are working hard to get everything back to normal as soon as possible.”
