The Tour de Trigs endurance hike returns

Organised in Banbury this years event will start at the Warriner School in Bloxham where teams of three competitors will attempt to complete the 50 mile course in 24 hours.

Younger and newcomers to the event can opt for the 30 mile junior hike to be completed in 30 hours or a 15 mile taster course.

The event attracts teams from all over the UK and as well as specialist trios from schools, scout groups and those competing towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award.

As well as personal achievement and bragging rights teams will be vying for the Tour de Trigs trophy. There will also be category trophies and certificates awarded for those who complete the challenging cross country course.

Teams will set off at one minute intervals from 9.30 a.m on Saturday from the Warriner School.

Competitors will be given a detailed route 30 minutes before they start, requiring them to visit manned check points where drinks are available and unmanned Check points where they have to punch their cards with a unique orienteering punch.

The non-profit event is made possible by an army of 200 volunteers manning check points in addition to emergency services, transport vehicles for retirees, communications, off road rescue teams and catering staff.

Banbury’s mayor, councillor Gordon Ross will present the winning teams with their trophies on Sunday at 1pm.
