There were toothy smiles all round when a nursery held its first Tooth Week last week.
Smart Tots Day Nursery and Pre-School, in Horse Fair, held the special event to help teach children all about good tooth management and the dangers of too much sugar in their diet.
Fun ‘toothy’ activities included making their own toothpaste, making papier mache teeth and completing tooth brushing charts.
They also saw what happens to real teeth when left in a sugary fizzy drink and the effect drinks and juices have on hard-boiled eggs left in the liquid for a length of time.
And they were taught the benefits of healthy eating.
Damien and Claire, from Amsel & Wilkins dentists, visited the children to talk about their teeth and how to look after them properly. They also brought animal teeth for the tots to examine.
Nursery manager Gemma Froude said: “Many parents have said they find it difficult to get their child to brush their teeth. We felt that Easter is the perfect time to start afresh with new routines that enable them to look after their teeth really well.
“The Tooth Week will hopefully make a 'significant impact on their tooth care for the rest of their lives.”
