As Katie stormed into the Banbury Guardian region, eight karts stormed around Chacombe for the village’s ninth soapbox derby on Easter Monday.
The derby saw old and returning contestants take to the road in a vehicle of their own making to be the fastest on the village’s roads.
The event was won by Soap Formula, which was driven by Ben Beckingsale and just pipped Orange, driven by Robert Tustian, to be the fast kart on the track by less than half a second.
Both karts had appeared in the very first soapbox derby and while Orange and driver had appeared in all nine, Soap Formula, which won the first event, had languished in a back garden for five years only to be resurrected for Monday’s competition – and win.
Winning the most innovative kart category was Grumpy Grampy with an armchair, standard lamp, TV and cup of tea.
It was driven by Mike Wilkes.
Other karts taking part included Tandem, Red Dart, Baker Boys, Needs More Work and Herby 53.
