A man has been sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, for assault occasioning grievous bodily harm in Banbury town centre.

At Oxford Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday), Ashley Crane, aged 19, of no fixed abode, was also handed a two-year supervision order, ordered to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work and to pay £600 compensation to the victim.

He pleaded guilty to one count of GBH at a previous hearing in November.

Crane assaulted an 18-year-old man in an alleyway off Bolton Road and Market Place on August 7 last year, causing facial injuries.

He was arrested on the same day and charged the following day.

Det Con Mark Personius of Banbury CID said: “Thames Valley Police will not tolerate violence in our community and I am pleased that Crane is being held accountable for his actions.”
