A fire in a residential garage in Banbury is being treated as an arson attack, according to a councillor who called on anyone with information to call police.

Two fire crews from Banbury were called to a fire in a garage on Balmoral Avenue at 4.55pm yesterday (Thursday, December 6), and quickly put it out.

Cllr Mark Cherry, who is also chairman of Ruscote, Hardwick, Hanwell Fields and Neithrop Community Forum, said he was told the incident is believed to have been caused deliberately.

“Luckily the fire service caught it in time or it would have taken out the whole garage block,” he said.

“Any member of the public with any information on possible perpetrators should contact police on 101 as this kind of intolerable behaviour could put lives at risk.”

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 43180373688.
