Support firefighters in Brackley as they wash cars for charity

They will be running a car wash event in Brackley tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to 1pm when members of the public will be able to bring their vehicles along for a clean.

The cleans will be carried out in return for voluntary donations, which will go towards the charity’s work to help support retired and serving fire officers and staff, and their families.

An officer from the joint Safer Roads Team (Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service) will be attending the Brackley car wash event to hand out road safety tips and carry out free child car seat checks.

Daniel Makepeace, a leader of the Brackley branch of the Emergency Services Cadets, and a retained firefighter at Brackley Fire Station, said: “We have never done one of these car washes at Brackley before but now we have the Cadets and one part of their development is to raise money for charity. So the crew and the Cadets will be on hand to wash some cars and hopefully raise some funds to help the good work of The Fire Fighters Charity.

“It is a great chance for the Cadets to build up their skills and raise money for charity at the same time.”

Jill Tolfrey, Chief Executive of The Fire Fighters Charity, added: “The National Car Wash provides a vital source of income for the charity, as well as being a fun and popular event. It costs £9 million a year to keep The Fire Fighters Charity running – and with no regular government funding, we rely completely on your donations and goodwill.”
