Supercar inspiration for school students

The reason behind the addition of a £175,000 sports car to the school car park was to inspire students to take up engineering and to educate them as to the various career paths within the industry.

Ran on a voluntary basis by Aston Martin project engineer Bal Choda, the visit outlined the many possible employment opportunities within the motor vehicle engineering field.

Pravah Osman, associate principal at the school, said: “He’s going to do a general talk about Aston Martin, its work and the career pathways.

“We have some students that want to get into apprenticeships, some have got engineering careers in mind, some ant to be designers of cars and a girl that wants to be a professional driver.”

Mr Choda’s speech was given to a select group of about 100 students, mostly chosen from Years 9 to 11, along with sixth formers and a select group from the lower years who had expressed a special interest.

While a £175,000 supercar maybe out of financial reach for many, the idea that a student could go on to aid in its creation shouldn’t be.

Ms Osman said: “We’re just opening the children’s eyes and encouraging them to be aspirational.”
