Organisations working in the Bretch Hill area of Banbury have come together in a bid to turn the dream of a community café into reality.
They hope to see it built next to The Sunshine Centre and are now ready to move to the next stage.
The vision is to create something that would become a focal point where people from across the community can meet up and enjoy hot drinks, meals and snacks at affordable prices in warm and welcoming surroundings.
A spokesman said: “On an additional level it is anticipated that the café will afford residents training, volunteering, and employment opportunities as well as a comfortable venue for local councillors, politicians and police to meet community members over a well made cappuccino or cup of tea.”
So far the planning group has had architects drawings done, got planning permission and is now turning its attention to the challenge of raising the money to pay for it.
Members of a number of groups got together last week to plan a community fundraising campaign.
A range of ideas were discussed, one of which is a fundraising menu allowing individuals to donate as little as £1 to buy a brick or up to £20 for a table. The fundraising team have set their first target at £10,000 and will also welcome any donations from businesses.
