Mr Craven is a vice-patron for the charity, which supports people with learning disabilities, and cut the ribbon at its hub in Butcher’s Row.

The books have been donated by businesses and supporters, and Hannah Wolstenholme, day opportunities manager, said the area will help service users work towards getting valuable experience in the community.

She said: “It was really nice to have John at the opening. The idea came back through our other services in the south of the county but this will give adults a structured environment to enjoy doing some work. We have a lot of books ranging from fiction to cookery but still rely on donations.”

The bookshop will be open part-time every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am until 4pm and be staffed by service users at the hub, with support from charity volunteers.

Ms Wolstenholme said: “We are looking to add on to what we are already offering at the charity so as we are in the town centre, it is really nice to have something like this on site and be able to get on board with the community.

“We will be supporting service users and helping them with different skills.”

To make a donation, call the hub in Butcher’s Row on 01295 239944.
