There is still time for you to give the local hero in your life a chance to be at the heart of one of Banbury’s biggest events... Canal Day.

The Banbury Guardian has teamed up with Banbury Town Council to launch a search for somebody who has done something special in the community, to be part of the Canal Day event opening on Sunday, October 4.

We want you to tell us, in no more than 150 words, why your nominated Banbury hero deserves to win their moment in the spotlight.

The winner will enjoy a coffee with the Town Mayor, Councillor Tony Mepham, before riding on a narrowboat from Sovereign Wharf down to Tooley’s Boatyard as part of the grand opening, where the Mayor will cut the ribbon.

It could be that you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the community, devoted tireless efforts to a charity or gone above and beyond in their commitment to a loved one.

If so, now is the time to tell us all about it.

This year’s Canal Day has a ‘colours of the rainbow’ theme and once again offers fun for all the family.

Send your nominations to or by post, marked Canal Day Hero, to: The Editor, Banbury Guardian, 7 North Bar, Banbury, OX16 0TQ.

Please include your contact details, as well as contact details for the nominee.

All entries must be received by Monday, September 28. The winner chosen by
the judges will be able to invite one guest to join them on the boat.
