Variety will be the spice of life in Great Bourton thanks to a new village hall which has been given the go-ahead alongside 33 homes.
The proposal for land to the west of Garners House near the A423 was warmly welcomed by the chairman of the parish council.
Sally Leszczynski said they had worked with developer One Property Group, adding: “It is a unique opportunity for the village to have a larger community hall that will enable us to have a much wider variety of activities.
“We would love to use the current village hall, which is a converted chapel, because it is very useful, but it is very small and we can only do little things there. The whole development should be an advantage to the village and it is all very exciting.”
The application was approved at Cherwell District Council last Thursday and, as well as the community hall, the developer will also fund two new bus stops.
Some villagers, however, expressed their concerns. In a letter to Cherwell District Council, Great Bourton resident Andrew Bradbury said: “The proposed estate would be built outside the current village envelope on the edge of a category two village where new residential development should be restricted to conversions and infilling within the village.
“Great Bourton has not been earmarked for such substantial development.”
