The newly refurbished Chipping Norton Lido will holding a special event on Saturday, June 20 with its Solstice Sunset Swim.
Running from 7pm until 11pm, keen swimmers will have the run of the pools and the steam room and celebrate the last of the long, warm evenings before the nights begin to draw in.
Entrance is by ticket only which are £5 for adults or £3.50 for children/concessions.
There will be a bar serving a variety of drinks for donations as well as light snacks.
Chipping Norton Lido is this year celebrating its 10th consecutive year of independent operation since a panel of trustees took over the running of the facilities from West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) in late 2004.
The pool’s aging facilities have been steadily modernised in the intervening years and trustees have been successful in winning several awards including a West Oxfordshire Green Business Award and a WODC Chairman’s Oustanding Achievement Award.
Ahead of the start of the new season in April the toddler and 25m pools were modernised thanks to a grant provided by Sport England.
However, despite recent successes the Lido is still operating with a trading deficit of £15,000 and is reliant on an annual grant from Chipping Norton Town Council and community fundraising.
Each year activists host a series of lotteries, quizzes and the Auction of Promises hosted by Jeremy Clarkson with prizes this year including the use of a Mazda car of the winner’s choice for six months with insurance paid, three nights’ stay at the Hell Bay Hotel at Bryher in the Isles of Scilly and a signed Top Gear t-shirt. This year the event raised £15,000.
