A Banbury shopper is worried about Cherwell District Council’s decision to move the market to Cornhill.
Linda King took this picture of the market in its new location on Saturday last week after the council announced it would free up the car park for shoppers.
Mrs King has lived in the area since 1976 and now lives in Bloxham. She said: “It was a beautiful, sunny, spring day which should have brought out the crowds to a bustling, historic market square. Instead you see an almost entirely empty car park with a tiny squashed up market at the top of the Market Place.”
Kieron Mallon, leader of Banbury Town Council, said: “I visited the market on Saturday as I do in most cases to buy my fruit and veg and at the same time I support the local butcher. The veg man said it was his best day since Christmas and I am sure when news gets out a short stay car park has re-opened on market days, traders will benefit.”
