Spiceball Park was full of Santas young and old as they embraced the chilly weather for Katharine House Hospice’s fifth Santa Fun Run.
The well-supported charity event saw nearly 500 people gather in the park on Sunday morning, with nearly £18,000 pledged in sponsorship on the day. This year’s theme was Winter Wonderland, which included a real snow machine and even a visit from some reindeers and elves.
Robert and Ildiko from Salsa UK Dancers provided a festive Zumba warm-up for the competitors, while Radio Horton provided some Christmas music to keep everyone running. Entrants could take part in either a 4km run or a shorter 1km route.
Nicky Hanson, head of fundraising, said: “A huge thank you to everyone. The weather behaved perfectly and the sun shone during the run after a rainy early morning. We are so grateful for all the fantastic local support at our events such as the Santa Fun Run, we simply could not carry on caring without it.”
The hospice cares for some 700 patients a year and has running costs of £3.3 million.
