Mark Harris said Samaritans were in the unique position of being able to offer a 24-hour service to those affected.

He also presented long-service awards to Samaritans who had been with the branch for 15, 20 and 25 years, as well as the Claire Squires Award for long service to Liz Herringshaw, from Moreton-in-Marsh.

Liz said: “This award means a great deal to me as not only was Claire’s mother, Cilla, a great friend and colleague, but I was also at Claire’s funeral.”

Director Will Adams said “It is important that we acknowledge and celebrate both the dedication of our volunteers and the wider support that we get from across our region, covering parts of Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.

“This annual event also gives us an opportunity to present our annual report and to update everyone on our progress.”
