Running to repay kindness

A Horton General Hospital housekeeper will run his first marathon this year to raise cash for a cause close to his heart.

William Mason, 31, will complete the challenge in his home city of Edinburgh on May 25 in a bid to raise £250 for the charity Genetic Disorders UK. Mr Mason said he wants to help raise awareness of genetic disorders because the five-year-old son of a friend who supported him when his father died in 2003 has a rare genetic condition.

He said: “I wanted to help pay his mum back because she helped me out so much. Also working at the Horton I see the effects these kinds of conditions have on people.” To make a donation, visit
