Rubbish dumped near a popular Brackley beauty spot

The waste, roughly enough to fill a van, was dumped at the beginning of a public footpath at the end of Hinton Road near St James Lake, sometime over the weekend commencing Saturday, 12 March.

During the week that punters place bets at one of the nation’s biggest horse racing festivals, environmental enforcement officers from South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) are betting another householder took bad advice from a rogue van man.

Not only does the person dumping the waste risk a 12-month prison sentence, and/or a fine of up to £50,000, but they also put the householder who produced the waste at risk of prosecution for failing in their duty of care.

Councillor Dermot Bambridge, South Northamptonshire District Council’s portfolio holder for environmental services said: “The enforcement team have named the horse Trigger. He’s quite distinctive and someone will recognise him.

“I would urge anyone with information about this incident of fly-tipping near a popular Brackley beauty spot to come forward.”

Householders have a duty of care to ensure the waste they produce is disposed of properly, failure to do so could result in a fine of up to £5,000.

Anyone transporting waste must hold a Waste Carriers Licence and must provide the waste producer with a Waste Transfer Note detailing the nature of the waste and who has been entrusted to dispose of it, including their name, address and vehicle registration.
