A receptionist who has seen many changes in eyewear fashion and the increasing popularity of contact lenses is marking 35 years with the same Banbury optician.
Jane Tuckey, 69, joined Walford and Round opticians in 1981 after a number of years raising a family.
Mrs Tuckey saw a job for a receptionist for Tony Round and Richard Walford advertised and thought it was something she wanted to have a go at.
The 87-year-old firm is now run by Jonathan Walford and Michael Round.
Mrs Tuckey said Walford and Round was a really good firm to work for.
She said: “They are very caring and it’s nice to work for a family run firm.”
To mark her second milestone of the year – she celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary with husband, Michael in March – she was taken out for dinner, received flowers and a holiday voucher.
She said she had always wanted to go to Amsterdam.
During her time at the opticians, she says she has seen many changes.
“Things have changed a lot,” she said. “When I started they didn’t even have computers so everything had to be written down.
“The choice of frames has increased, there are so many more now. There’s a choice of contact lenses as well.
“We have some lovely patients who have come back over the years and they bring their children who later come with their children so you see them all growing up.
“The fashion has changed. It has gone from small frames back to larger ones – it’s gone full circle.
“If you are going to wear glasses, you might as well make a statement.”
The Tuckeys have two children, David, 46, and Kate, 44. They also have five grandchildren.
