ABOUT 20 people spent Thursday night in hotels after being evacuated following a major fire at a farm on the Oxfordshire-Northamptonshire border.

Fire crews are today (Friday) damping down the blaze which took hold in two barns at Wardington Gate Farm, Wardington.

Northamptonshire fire crews were assisted by pumps from Oxfordshire and RAF Croughton at the barns, which were full of straw and fertiliser.

The fire was reported at 2.45pm yesterday (Thursday) and took several hours to bring under control.

Wardington Gate Farm is the home of Ben Case Racing.

It is a purpose-built yard and home to 30 National Hunt and Flat horses.

Among the horses trained at Ben Case Racing is Dream Island, due to run in Monday’s Welsh National at Chepstow.

Two people were treated at the scene for the effects of breathing in smoke and animals in the barns were all taken to safety.

People living in Wardington are still being advised to keep their doors and windows shut.
