The Puritans lost 3-1 in Saturday’s premier division central clash at the Walks Stadium where their 30-year run without recording a victory never looked in danger of being broken.

United were without the injured Greg Kaziboni and the suspended Lee Henderson so Charlie Hawtin partnered Charlie Wise in central defence.

The hosts took a fifth minute lead after good link-up play between Ryan Jarvis and Frazer Blake-Tracy whose inch perfect cross found Michael Gash and his shot ended up in the net via Hawtin.

Further chances fell Kings Lynn’s way with United turning possession in a good area on the right into a clear run at goal for Harry Limb but Jack Harding saved well. Gash turned provider with a cross picking out an unmarked Ryan Hawkins who headed wide.

United’s best chance of the half came in the last minute when a Giorgio Rasulo free-kick from 20 yards was deflected on to the bar.

Any hope of turning the game round were made a lot harder when Kings Lynn doubled their lead in the 56th minute. Hawkins was allowed too much space following a free-kick and Wise upended him in the box, Clunan converted the ensuing spot-kick.

It was 3-0 on the hour mark as Limb also found room on the left and drilled a cross shot high into the roof of the net. United reduced the arrears in the 72nd minute when Shamsi’s shot came back off the post and Rasulo was on hand to score.
