Budding builders at The Grange Primary School in Banbury got their hands dirty as they learnt the skills of bricklaying last Friday.

The Year 1 and 2 youngsters’ latest project, The Big Build, really came to life as they got to have a go with some real bricks and mortar.

Richard Francis of Wain & Francis Ltd and Craig Wheeler, brickwork tutor from ACE Training, delivered the session which is part of Trade School; an educational programme designed by Mr Francis for Key Stage 1 pupils, based around the story of the Three Little Pigs.

Recently the pupils at The Grange have been exploring how materials are used to change the world and the event was definitely a highlight of the programme. Conal Patterson, five, said: “I like to watch and learn. I think I’ll be able to build a wall after this if my daddy lets me.”

Teacher Amelia Bramall added: “We wanted to choose a topic that was different and that the kids would find interesting. We’re trying to have a ‘wow’ moment and they have really loved it.”

Schools interested in getting a visit should call Mr Francis on 07778 213983.
