Entrepreneur and Reading FC chairman Sir John Madejski spoke to students and parents at Bloxham School last Friday.
The founder of Auto Trader magazine was part of a ‘Meet the Entrepreneur’ event at the school which also included talks by Jonathan Tibbetts, managing director of Tibbetts Group Limited, and Vivienne Cudahy, managing director of Auteur, a UK distributor of bobble-filtered water bottles.
Mr Tibbetts is a former Bloxham School pupil and since the firm was set up by his parents more than 30 years ago, the business has grown steadily from its base at the Vantage Business Park between Bloxham and Banbury.
Mr Tibbetts still lives in the village and speaking before the event he said: “We have started 2015 off with a record month and our financial year from April is looking at a turnover of 20 per cent compared to the previous years, which has been really good.
“My advice to anyone starting out in this business is to always take your gut feeling and run with it and take any advice you can get when it is available. You also need a lot of luck!”
Also speaking at the event was Viveanne Cudahy, who runs her company Auteur in Deddington.
Her business sells the water bottles which filter out chlorine and organic contaminations in tap water. She said: “I remember when I was at school and somebody was speaking about her business and I was left feeling very inspired.
“It is really important about access to business, there are lots of clubs that get you on in life and that is something you always do not see in school.”
Leadership and high performance coach Zander Woodford-Smith, of Complete Coherence, gave a talk entitled ‘Being Brilliant Everyday.’
