Harry Dunn's family have renewed hope of the American woman accused of killing the Northamptonshire teenager being extradited after Joe Biden won the United States presidential election.

Donald Trump's administration blocked the British government's request to extradite Anne Sacoolas over her controversial diplomatic immunity claim.

Harry's mother Charlotte Charles believes they can convince the Democrat to make Sacoolas face the UK justice system having been declared victorious on Saturday (November 7).

"I would like to congratulate President-elect Biden for winning across the pond - it's wonderful news for us and I wish him and his team much success for the coming years," she said.

"It's given myself and Team Harry some renewed hope of getting justice for our boy - he still fully deserves justice, as do we."

Harry, 19, died after a head-on crash between his motorcycle and Sacoolas' car, which was on the wrong side of the road, near Croughton in August last year.

The American woman claimed diplomatic immunity the next day using a loophole in the waiver agreement for US service personnel at RAF Croughton and left the UK for home a few weeks later.

The US government rejected an extradition request from the Home Office in January after Sacoolas was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Throughout, Harry's family have been campaigning for Sacoolas to come back for more than 12 months, meeting Mr Trump in the Oval Office roughly a year ago.

Mrs Charles said: "We just want her back, we want justice for our boy, I need justice for my boy.

"We need to be able to live our lives again somehow and while the injustice goes on, we can't begin to try and actually rebuild."

Contacts have been made between Harry's family and Mr Biden's team already through their spokesperson, Radd Seiger.

In 1972, Mr Biden's then-wife Neilia and one-year-old daughter Amy died in a car crash and Mrs Charles believes their shared loss may help their cause.

"We hope that Mr Biden, through personal experience, can have a far deeper understanding of our pain and our suffering since we lost Harry," she said.

"We can but hope that he will take the time to also see that the injustice on top of losing Harry is quite simply continuing to make our lives pretty unbearable."

Mr Biden's win is still considered a prediction as some states are yet to finish counting and Mr Trump is refusing to concede, launching several legal challenges over unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud.
