Time runs out for Banburyshire voters to register

Eligible voters who still have not submitted their details for the electoral register only have until 11:59pm on Tuesday, November 26 to do so.

Anyone who is unable to attend their polling station on Thursday, December 12 can apply for a postal or proxy vote.

The deadline for applications for postal votes is 5pm, also on Tuesday, 26 November; applications for new proxy votes must be received by 5pm on Tuesday, December 4.

Richard Ellis, (acting) returning officer for South Northamptonshire, said: “The challenges faced by the country are being hotly debated across every platform.

“But no matter what you read on social media or hear reported on the TV, what really counts is having your say at the ballot box on December 12.

“It’s unusual to have an election at this time of year. People living in rural areas - or who are worried about transport on the big day - might prefer to get it sorted in advance by applying for a postal vote, or by choosing a trusted friend to vote on their behalf.

“We want to make sure everyone can have their say, so we are asking everyone to get these deadlines in their diary and make sure they don’t miss out on voting.”

While the build-up to the general election continues, Cherwell and South Northants councils' electoral canvass teams are still out and about making sure people have responded to the annual canvass.

They will be carrying council ID badges and will be taking voter’s details using their Mobile Canvassing App.
