Police praise jury and family after Parsons trial

Yesterday (Friday) a jury at Oxford Crown Court found Parsons, aged 38, of Lucerne Avenue, guilty of the murder of Janee Parsons and he was sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 20 years. He had pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the start of the trial.

Speaking after the verdicts, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Joe Kidman said: “The murder of a loved one is always a great tragedy for the victim’s family and friends.

“This case was unusual because the terrible brutality of the attack was captured on an audio recording. Hearing this has been an additional burden for the grieving family to bear.

“They have shown great dignity throughout the investigation and trial process and our thoughts remain with them.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the members of the jury who have listened carefully to the extraordinary and disturbing evidence and returned a verdict that reflects the facts of what happened.”

Baljit Ubhey OBE, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern CPS, said: “We have worked closely with Thames Valley Police since this investigation was launched. This case involved the untimely death of 31-year-old mother, beautician and businesswoman Janee Parsons, who was stabbed to death in her own home in Bicester on December 1 2012. Her life was brought to a premature end in the most brutal of ways.

“The jury at Oxford Crown Court found Andrew Parsons guilty of the murder of his wife despite his denials.

“As a result of the hard work and diligence of the prosecution team, a just outcome has been achieved for Janee’s family and friends. We hope that today’s conviction and sentence will in some way help them come to terms with this tragic event and move forward with their lives.

“Parsons has now been sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 20 years. However, no matter how long the prison sentence is, we acknowledge that nothing can make up for the loss felt by the family and friends and our thoughts are very much with them all at this time.”
