Police believe large barn fire in Chipping Norton was started by arsonists

Engines from three different fire services were called at about 4.30pm to a barn on Wards Road and found it well alight.

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire Fire Service said: "There were approximately 20 large bales and a store of wood involved in the fire.

"Crews used both hose reels and main jets to suppress the fire, and then worked hard to drag out and damp down the contents to ensure it didn’t reignite.

"Even though the hot sunny weather has passed for now, conditions are still very dry so please avoid discarding any rubbish or smoking materials as fires can start very easily at the moment."

Thames Valley Police believe the fire was started by arsonists and are appealing for anyone to come forward if they have info to assist with our enquiries, ref 1569 20/07/22
