Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the M40 yesterday

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle collision on the M40 in Oxfordshire which resulted in a woman being seriously injured.

At around 9.07am yesterday (Wednesday) a silver Mercedes ML270 travelling in lane two northbound between junctions 10 and 11 left the carriageway and went up an embankment. It came to rest on its roof on the hard shoulder, having overturned.

The driver, a 53-year-old woman, sustained serious spinal and head injuries and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

Investigating officer PC Wayne Martin, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing based at Bicester, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who saw the collision or who saw the vehicle travelling, prior to the collision. I would also like to speak to the driver of a black Audi who was driving close to the scene and who may have witnessed the collision.”
