Performance pleases Ford after Puritans make their point

Despite seeing his side pick up only a solitary point, Banbury United boss Mike Ford was pleased with the performance against Tamworth.

The Puritans played out a stalemate with Tamworth in Saturday’s Evo-Stik League South clash at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium. But Ford’s side looked the one most likely to take all three premier division central points.

Ford said: “For the majority of the game I thought we were very good. You are fearful at times that you may lose it and it wasn’t a game we deserved to lose, we did enough to win it.

“We showed real intent, Tamworth brought on a couple of substitutes with pace late on but we were solid at the back, Ricky Johnson and Lee Henderson were outstanding. We were very honest in midfield, Greg Kaziboni worked hard and the front two - Giorgio Rasulo and Steve Diggin – caused them problems.

“I thought we should have had a penalty when Giorgio was brought down, the initial foul was outside the box but the second one was in it. If he played the advantage after the first foul then surely he has to give a penalty for the second one.

“From start to finish we were the better team and Tamworth didn’t cause us any issues. Towards the end of the game, we looked the only team who were going to win it apart from us making a mistake.”
