Villagers fear sink hole is beneath gap in road suface in Banbury area village

Villagers fear a large sink hole is beneath a gap in the road suface on a junction in Clifton, near Deddington.

Resident Trina Murray-Hundley spotted the hole on Saturday and alerted Thames Valley Police. She was asked to put a cone over it until they were able to visit the scene.

The hole is on the junction of Tithe Lane and the main B4031 Clifton Road.

Mrs Murray-Hundley later took a torch to see if she could see how deep the hole was but was unable to see to the bottom. She told residents on the village Facebook page: “It’s very deep, not a pothole! Police are going to cordon off but can’t at the moment so asked us to put a cone on it for now.”

Oxfordshie Highways has since visited and put out four cones. A county council spokesman said: “It has beene passed to the relevant team for investigation.”
