A Thames Water spokesperson said: "We're really sorry to residents and motorists inconvenienced after a burst on a 14-inch wide water main.

"Our engineers were on the scene within an hour of the incident being reported on Thursday afternoon and had to close the road so they could safely dig down to the affected pipe.

"The repair has been completed and the road is set to be resurfaced over the weekend."
