Three Banbury area young men run marathon to benefit 'Show Racism The Red Card'
Despite the heat, Henry Moon, from Sibford, Sam Nelson, from Adderbury and Dan May, from Milton all the ran the marathon on Saturday August 1st.
They ran the 26.2 miles from Adderbury to Banbury and then down to Bloxham, through Hempton and Duns Tew before ending in Deddington in a time of approximately 4.5 hrs.
They were supported throughout by Owen Knox from Bodicote on his bicycle.
So far the three 18 year olds have raised more than £1,600 to support anti-racism training and educational programmes.
Donations can still be made through their Just Giving web page: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sam-nelson4
On the reasons for the marathon, Sam Nelson said: "We wanted to show that we do recognise the social injustices and detrimental effect that racism can have on peoples lives."
Henry Moon added: "We felt that funding for educational programmes to combat racism was a really worthwhile thing to do. But I’m not sure I’ll be running another marathon anytime soon."
