The pace of change for motoring in Banburyshire - Deddington offers electric vehicle charging in the village

Things have changed apace in motoring with electric vehicles destined to take the place of gas-guzzling motors - and Deddington has welcomed its first electric charging point.

Our first photo shows the huge, luxury motoring advance of its day - a prototype of the sleek Jaguar XJ220 built at Wykham Mill, Bloxham, taking on petrol at the Deddington High Street garage in the 1990s.

Our second photo shows a Jaguar iPace at the village's first EV charging point installed at the rear of the Windmill Community Centre on the Hempton Road.

The two Type 2, 22kW Shell NewMotion EV chargers appear on satnav systems and are listed among the 21,649 devices in 13,748 locations shown on the the Zap-Map website.

Payment is by smartphone app and credit card. The installation was paid for by a private donor, topped up by a grant from DVLA.
