Student paramedic from Banbury launches fundraising campaign for volunteer trip to help in Tanzanian hospital

Mica Lee, a third year student paramedic, has launched a fundraising campaign to help pay for her trip to volunteer in a hospital for three weeks in Tanzania in April 2022.

Mica is studying at Oxford Brookes University, and currently works as a student paramedic out of the Adderbury Ambulance Station.

There are several reasons why Mica is raising money to travel across the world, some of which include helping others and enhancing her paramedic career by developing her communication skills and confidence.

She said: "I also believe that people, myself included take a lot of what we deem just ‘life’ for granted, particularly our NHS.

"The hospitals in Africa are in a whole other dimension in regards to healthcare. They do not have an ambulance service, so many patients who attend hospital are seriously injured or unwell, and have had no ambulance treatment before coming into the A&E. They also are very limited on pain relief options, so patients such as mothers in labour do not have the choice to have pain relief.

"I have been wanting to be involved with something like this since I started university, however being a student takes it toll financially."

She launched a fundraising campaign through a GoFundMe web page.

She is also hosting a raffle with more than 40 prizes donated by local area businesses. Raffle tickets are £1 each, and can be purchased by making a donation through the GoFundMe page and using the person's name and making the following notation: x ‘number of tickets’.

Winners for the raffle will be drawn on Saturday May 29.

Mica has already reached the halfway mark of her £3,000 fundraising target, hopes to raise as much as possible.
