Mrs Batchelor - still a keen baker - was able to celebrate her centenary on September 12 just before the 'Rule of Six' came into force and was able to have a tea party with her daughter Claire Mills and son in law Nigel, her three grandsons and partners and her four great-grandchildren.

As well as the customary card from the Queen, Mrs Batchelor was also presented with a recipe book containing many of her own favourites with a forward specially written by celebrity cook, Mary Berry.

Mrs Batchelor still lives independently and celebrated by baking her regular batch of bread for family and friends. When not baking she enjoys reading, playing Scrabble and pottering in her garden.

She was born in Little Bourton in 1920 and moved several times around villages in south Warwickshire with her family who were local farmers, eventually settling in Warmington.

Here she met her husband Frank, who worked at the Alcan factory in Banbury. They had one daughter, Claire, and lived in the village for over forty years.

Following her husband's death Mrs Batchelor moved to Middleton Cheney in 1985 to be close to her daughter who taught at Chenderit School and she has lived in the village ever since.

"She still has an excellent memory and is a wonderful historical resource for family, local and national events over the last hundred years," said her son in law Nigel Mills.
