West Adderbury Residents' Association (WARA) said measures to end speeding motorists include extended speed limits and chicanes and the work could start as early as next month.

Oxfordshire County Council approved the traffic calming measures for a stretch of Milton Road, Berry Hill Road and The Rise.

The existing 30mph limit is to be extended further along Milton Road towards the Ball Colegrave site and a short 40mph speed limit will be introduced at the entrance to Berry Hill Road from the A4260 Oxford Road.

The highways department will also be constructing chicanes at the top of Berry Hill Road and on Milton Road to force vehicles to reduce speed which has been an ongoing issue on this part of the roads network for a number of years.

It is also understood that one lane in the triangle at the Oak Tree junction will be closed off for an trial period of 18 months. This will deter traffic from the Milton direction taking a left turn to cut through the narrow village centre street.

WARA said its information from the county traffic schemes office suggested the planned closure will go ahead at the same time as the establishment of the chicanes. The county council is currently conducting an informal consultation on the closure with the emergency services.
