Regional: Firefighters respond to chimney fire in village near Bicester

Firefighters responded to a reports of a chimney fire in a village near Bicester early this morning, Friday February 12.

A crew from Bicester was called during the early hours of this morning to reports of a chimney fire in Chesterton.

On arrival the crew were met by the occupiers who were alerted to the fire by their smoke alarms activating.

Firefighters using a thermal image cameras and found the 'fire within the surrounding area of an open fire place.

A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire and the surround removed to prevent further fire spread.

Thanks to an early 999 call and working smoke alarms damage was limited to the fire place.

The Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service encouraged people to remember to test their smoke alarms once a week to make sure they are working.
