For four years, the retailer has donated all of the proceeds from in-store sales of 10p plastic bags to support the charity’s family dog service, donating a total of over £30,000 in 2019.

Dogs for Good’s Family Dog service helps families with a child with autism get the best out of their relationship with a pet dog through a series of three, one-day workshops.

In 2020, shopping restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with a growing consumer consciousness to reduce plastic, led to a drop in plastic bag sales.

However, to show its continued support of the charities’ work, Pets at Home has announced it is matching last year’s donation.

A spokesperson for Pets at Home said: “The current climate is a really challenging time for our charity partners and fundraising has become more difficult than ever.

"We believe in the power of pets and that great things can happen when we bring dogs and people together – and Dogs for Good share the same values.

"The work they do in helping people to overcome challenges and enrich lives is phenomenal, which is why we wanted to continue our support and match last year’s donations, regardless of how many plastic bags we sell.”

In addition to its Family Dog service, Dogs for Good creates partnerships between people living with disability and specially-trained assistance dogs.

The charity brings trained dogs and people together to help them overcome specific challenges, to enrich and improve the lives of both.

Dogs for Good Fundraising Manager Cathryn Simpson said: “We’re so grateful to Pets at Home for this very generous donation.

"These much-needed funds will really help and enable us to provide support to more than 250 families through our Family Dog workshops and help change more lives.”
