'No cash' as parking system changes at Banbury's Horton Hospital in the new year
The car parking system changes at Banbury's Horton General Hospital from next week with cash tickets replaced by ANPR (automatic number plate recognition).
The new system means payment will be as you leave the site rather than before your visit – and you can pay by smart phone app.
From next Monday (January 5) the new parking payment machines will accept card payments but there will no longer be a cash option.
Paul Shead, Deputy Chief Estates and Facilities Officer at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “ANPR technology is being installed in the visitor and staff car parks at the Horton General Hospital and is scheduled to launch in January 2026.

“Once in place, patients and visitors will have flexible payment options. They will continue to be able to pay by card using new on-site machines, or choose to pay online or via an app – either in advance or up to 48 hours after leaving.
“People will be able to pay on exit rather than in advance and they’ll have more convenient ways to pay. This system is designed to make parking easier and reduce stress for patients and visitors attending hospital.”
Details about parking at the OUH hospitals can be found here. The first half hour is free if the vehicle leaves the site within 30 minutes of entry. This is to enable visitors plenty of time to find a space or wait for one to become free in busy times.
Payment is at the machines by card or contactless on departure. If you do not have a card you may pay online via the Evology app which can be downloaded here and follow the instructions.
Charges are: 30 minutes to one hour £1.40; 1 - 2 hours £2.80; 2 - 3 hours £4.20; 3 - 4 hours £5.60; over 4 hours £7. From 8pm - 8am parking is free. The charge for a lost ticket charge is £7.
Parking in accessible bays for Blue Badge holders is free. Scan your Blue Badge bar code at one of the parking machines and enter your Vehicle Registration Number (VRN). You can then drive in and drive out for up to six months after each scan.
