The collision caused the vehicle to overturn and the driver was left with serious injuries and taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he remains in a critical condition.

Investigating officer PC Naomi Hames of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, based at Bicester, said: “This appears to be a single vehicle collision which has sadly left the driver of the van with very serious injuries.

“I am appealing to anybody that was driving in the area at around 9.45pm on Monday who believes that they witnessed this collision to please contact police.

“I am also keen to hear from anybody who may have dash-cam footage of the incident to get in touch.

“You can do so by calling the 24-hour non-emergency 101 quoting reference 43200072431."
