The amazing community in Bloxham and the surrounding area have rallied together to help find and rescue a dog that was hit by a car.

Bruno's owner Rebecca Bossi called for help when her dog was struck by a car outside her house on the A361 last Saturday night and then ran away.

And the response she got was overwhelming with residents from Bloxham and other nearby villages searching high and low for him - and even drones were brought in from Banbury.

And it had a happy ending - Bruno was found by a jogger who just decided to run a different route on the off chance that she would see him.

Vets were able to treat his leg injuries and Bruno is now recovering from his ordeal.

Rebecca said: "In the current climate, it was heartwarming to see the community come together like that.

"We were amazed by the response locally and the numbers of people who came out on Saturday night, all of Sunday and Monday morning to help us find him.

"The announcement of the lost dog was shared over 1,000 times on Facebook and at times on Sunday there must have been over 100 people searching up and down Bloxham Grove (the last known sighting of him).

"We had people coming from Banbury with drones, walking and cycling in from Bodicote and the surrounding area, and posters put up by people in the surrounding villages.

"Many of these people were total strangers, but we are grateful to every single one of them."

When the jogger found Bruno, Rebecca got the call they had all been waiting for.

"My husband and I had not long passed her on the road when a call came in to say that she had seen him," she said.

"We went back to her and were able to track Bruno in a cornfield.

"His leg was a big mess from where he was hit by the car, but he was otherwise ok.

"The vets have treated him and he is recovering remarkably well.

" We would like to once again thank everyone who came out to help."
