Good news for Oxfordshire’s library users in December and in 2021

All of the 32 libraries and three heritage sites that had opened before the November lockdown will reopen again. There’s also further good news in that the 12 libraries that had not reopened since the initial lockdown in March 2020 will be opened during January and February 2021.

Cllr Lorraine Lindsay-Gale, Oxfordshire County Council’s cabinet member for education and cultural services said: “It’s great news that we can reopen our libraries and even better news that the libraries that we haven’t been able to reopen since Spring will now be reopened in early 2021.

“In so many ways we hope that 2021 will see a gradual return to normality and in terms of our local libraries and cultural services we are certainly planning for that to be the case. It’s certainly great to be able to pass on this news to the many Oxfordshire communities who have been eagerly awaiting this update.”

Libraries will close again on December 24 at 4pm for the Christmas period, but Banbury, Witney, Henley, Abingdon, and Oxfordshire County will also open on December 29, 30 and 31.

The Oxfordshire Museum, the Museum Resource Centre in Standlake and History Centre in Cowley will also reopen on December 2.

The Oxfordshire Museum will then close during the Christmas period from Monday December 21 to Wednesday January 6, 2021.

The History Service will close to the public Thursday December 24, 2020 12.30 pm and re-open Tuesday January 5, 2021.
