Firefighters rescue dog from Oxfordshire village house fire

Firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire in an Oxfordshire village yesterday, Wednesday October 14.

Four fire crews responded to a house fire in Forge Place the village of Fritwell around 11.40am yesterday.

On arrival, crews found smoke issuing from the roof of the property. Despite there being no one in the property at the time of the fire, a dog was rescued by firefighters who entered the property wearing breathing apparatus.

Firefighters from the four different stations worked together to stop the fire spreading to the adjoining property.

An investigation of the fire after the event showed that the fire started in the kitchen of the property and spread through to the roof.

Crew Manager Dan Evans from Banbury Fire Station said: “Luckily no one was hurt in this incident, and we hope by making people aware of the causes and encouraging them to follow simple and straightforward safety advice, there will be less kitchen and cooking fires in coming years.

"It is important to remember to keep flammable materials away from ignition sources, such as cookers, even when not in use”

Thames Valley Fire Control mobilised one appliance from Banbury Fire Station, one from Eynsham fire station and one from Brackley fire station. A further specialist aerial vehicle was requested from Rewley Road fire station in Oxford.
