Fire crews called to car fire on M40 near Banbury

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue crews from Bicester and Kidlington Fire Stations were called to a car fire on the M40 last night (Thursday June 10) near Banbury.

Firefighters found the car well alight between junctions 10-11 two miles south of Banbury

Traffic was stopped briefly by colleagues from Highways England: South-East around 6.40pm while firefighters extinguished the fire using hose-reels and breathing apparatus.

Two small camping gas cylinders were cooled and removed from the vehicle.

The occupant noticed changes in the vehicle handling, and then smoke in the rear view mirror and was able to pull over and get out safely.
