Steph Howles and Rose Morris of Showhomes based in Upper Tysoe scooped the award for the best Exterior Project in recognition of their work on a dated property that needed as much preparation as it did paint.

Ms Howles was also triumphant in the category for Wallpaper Project under £1,500 after she tackled a century old property with uneven walls demonstrating tenacity and patience to bring the walls back to life with stunning decor.

The business partners were revealed as the winners at the Dulux Select Decorators Awards 2019 at the National Painting and Decorating Show.

The decorating duo, both in their late 50s, met through a mutual friend. They worked so well together, they decided to partner up for their business.

Two of Ms Morris's three children have been involved in the business - one is currently an apprentice training with them..

Ms Howles, a mother of one, said she gor her love of painting and decorating from her father, who is also a decorator.

The two gained NVQs and continue to educate themselves by taking courses at the Dulux Academy. They have recently taken a digital mural course at the Academy.

They both said, although they don’t limit themselves, they prefer residential projects (which make up 90 per cent of their work) and love working on period properties. They also love huge wallpapering projects.

The Dulux Select Decorators scheme enrols professional decorators who undergo rigorous assessments to become members - they must have at least three years’ experience in the trade and have run their own business for a minimum of 12 months.

Ms Morris said: “We’re thrilled with the results of the award ceremony. We both take such pride in our work, so it is great to be recognised nationally for the job we do."

Ms Howles said: “Wallpapering is something we both really enjoy doing and the project gets a lot of comments. Winning both awards is a testament to the team of people we work with who we couldn’t have done it without.”

The painting duo were also Highly Commended in the Apprentice Mentor and Scheme Supporter categories.

Vickie Mather, Dulux Select Decorators Lead said: “It was fantastic to recognise Steph and Rose for their decorating expertise and dedication to the Dulux Select Decorators scheme - the number of categories they were shortlisted in is a testament to the huge impact they have had on the decorating industry.
