Crowds get acclimatised as Cropredy festival heats up and the music is scorching

Large crowds were getting acclimatised to the scorching heat as the Cropredy festival entered its second day yesterday (Friday).

While some sun-worshippers made the most of sun-bathing to the sounds of their favourite music, others took refuge from the intense rays beneath a variety of umbrellas and other shelters.

Some retreated out of sight of the stage to the refuge of the canopy of the large trees at the top of the arena site.

The day got started with a set by BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Maddie Morris with her political songs about social exclusion, followed by Emily Barker, the singer-songwriter best known for her Wallander theme tune but singing tracks from her latest album, A Murmuration of Words.

John Tams returned to Home Service to join John Kirkpatrick fronting this set which offered the best of the band, old and new.

Martyn Joseph’s set included a new song about the trials and tribulations of the population of Ukraine prompting a rousing round of applause. Fans of The Slambovian Circus of Dreams were out in force at the front of the stage and they were not disappointed as charismatic front man Joziah Longo presided over a memorable set.

The evening got going with the talented Sharon Shannon Trio, followed by Turin Brakes previewing their new album, Wide-Eyed Nowhere. The evening came to a fantastic finale with Steve Hackett’s Genesis Revisited.

Today (Saturday) begins at noon with Seth Lakeman followed by Holy Moly and the Crackers, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican, Rosalie Cunningham, The Matthews Baartmans Experience, Richard Thompson and the inimitable Fairport Convention and friends to wrap up another hugely successful festival.
