Coronavirus - Banbury and Oxford hospitals cancel planned operations and routine outpatient appointments

The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (OUH) has today cancelled all routine operations and outpatients for adults and children to free up space and medical staff for coronavirus victims.

The action comes today (Monday) on the same day as visiting restrictions were introduced in an attempt to limit possible infections.

It is understood the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Bruno Holthof has written to staff and govenors to say the immediate actions include

* cancelling all routine outpatients for adults and children and will use video conference facilities where possible

* cancelling all routine elective inpatients for adults and children on all sites

* restricting visitor access to trust sites - the Horton General Hospital, Banbury, the JR Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford

* cancelling all non-essential events that are organised on trust sites.

The notice says the trust is formalising a telephone list through which staff and managers will be able to receive messages about Covid-19.

And the trust is doing its best to allow staff to work from home if possible.
