The virtual plays take place over five consecutive days and will feature a Roald Dahl-themed week for those aged seven - 12-years and an online murder mystery project for those aged over 13-years.

The innovative holiday theatre productions have been specially designed after the coronavirus put a pause on the company's plans to increase its holiday drama workshops.

Following the company's Shakespeare Sessions and Park Ranger workshops in February, CTC was planning many exciting opportunities for young people in and around Banbury, including The Changing Room, a performance designed to take place at Woodgreen Swimming Pool.

“Young people need the arts. We strive to engage young people creatively and offer them a chance to express themselves and make new friends” said Artistic Director, Tristan Jackson-Pate.

“Many young people across our district feel more isolated than ever at the moment and we knew that CTC needed to provide a safe space online for them during this time, as well as longer-term creative challenges for the lengthy period ahead before schools re-open.”

CTC redeveloped its Monday evening workshops in May and sessions are now delivered via Zoom. The company has seen over two thirds of its regular participants engaging regularly with positive group activities.

This August, over five consecutive days, 'play in a week' participants will experience a mixture of morning group Zoom sessions and daily tasks which can be completed and shared back via online workshops each afternoon. Each participant will receive a creative pack which will include tasks with materials and ideas for them to complete alongside the sessions.

"We're very grateful to local firm Nicholson's who have sponsored our print and postage costs, helping us to get packs out in the post to participants," said Mr Jackson-Pate.

Ages 7-12 can enjoy a Roald Dahl themed creative week exploring the legendary author's stories from Monday - Friday, August 3 - 7.

Ages 13+ will delve into devising an online murder mystery, creating the plot and characters while working together to develop an online immersive theatre experience. This workshop takes place from Monday - Friday, August 10 - 14.

The price to take part in the workshop is £30 and bursary places are available to those who need them.

"We know many local families have been affected by loss of income due to COVID-19," said Mr Jackson-Pate. "We would encourage anyone whose child would like to take part but is worried about fees to email us and we'll be happy to provide a bursary."
